Saft FAQ
When upgrading is charged
Upgrading in same MacOSX major version is free of charge. A fee is charged for cross MacOSX major version upgrading. So if you want to upgrade saft_leopard to saft_snow_leopard a fee is charged.
Saft is not a normal application but a plugin/patch to add or modify features in Safari. Comparing to add a new feature, it requires more work to keep a such plugin in sync with Safari, especially for cross MacOSX major version upgrading.
Upgrading is done from the account page.
Saft does not work in Snow Leopard
First please verify that you have installed Saft for Snow Leopard and not still use Saft for Leopard.
The major improvement of Safari in Snow Leopard is support of 64-bit mode. In the 64-bit mode Safari runs faster and has better protection from plugin crashes, but InputManagers plugins are not supported and disabled by MacOSX in this mode. Saft supports different loading mechanisms, choose the one most suitable for you:
- InputManager plugin, that only works when Safari runs in 32-bit mode
- Safari launcher, that starts Safari in 64-bit mode
- SIMBL plugin, that requires SIMBL-0.9.6c or higher installed and supports both 32-bit mode and 64-bit mode (disadvantage: loading too late than the first two)
Delay when Going to New URL
If there is a noticeable delay when you click a link, submit a form, Google search, type in a URL, check if you get tons of things under "File"->"Load Browser Window". So this is due to crash protection that flushes preferences to disk when opening an URL. Turn on "Restore at start" if "Save browser windows at quitting" is ON to avoid the number of saved windows from growing and cleanup the old ones. So this is NOT a bug or a thing to force you to buy Saft - it is just crash protection needs to work this way to really protect you from losing important URLs at crash.
Find Next One in Type-ahead
Saft's type-ahead just does a search in Safari, so to find next one, you just check "Find Again" from the menu, or use the shortcut cmd-G.
I Cannot Quit Safari
You have just enabled kiosk mode!!!
To turn it off, use the shortcut cmd-"," to open the preferences, and give your password when it asks you for it. Then you get the access to preference panels, there you can just turn off kisok mode in Saft panel. Restart Safari to go back to normal mode.
Missing Contextual Menu
It seems to be tied in with "localized string not found", and by trashing the webkit framework and reinstalling Safari from the Combo Updater solves this problem, as reported by one user.
More about this problem can be read
You'll know you need this fix when you find that you no longer get the JavaScript prompt boxes.
Just type in something like
javascript:prompt('hello','')
in Safari's address bar. If you don't see a pop-up prompt, then your localization files are
hosed. Get the Combo Updater and reinstall.
Safari v125 not Supported?
This is same problem as "Missing Contextual Menu" above. You need to reinstall WebKit and Safari.
Saft Version?
To find which version of Saft you are using, just "About Saft" under "About Safari" from the menu bar, then you get the standard About window of Saft with version number, credit text and disclaimer.
Where is Saft Preference Panel?
It has happened few times that users can see menus added be Saft but just cannot find Saft preference panel in Safari preferences. The solution suggested by an user and that has always worked so far is to:
Quit Safari Delete com.apple.Safari.plist in your home directory/Library/Preferences. Start SafariSo the problem seems to be corrupted preference file.
